Chloe Smith MP has announced the start of the ‘Great Local Shop of the Year’ competition in which Norwich North constituents can nominate and vote online for their favourite local retailer.
The competition runs from February 1st to April 30th and Chloe Smith MP will announce the winners afterwards who will be invited to a reception at the Houses of Parliament. Whoever receives the most votes will become north Norwich’s Great Local Shop of the Year and will receive a brand new website for their business. By voting in the competition, residents will be taking the opportunity to say “thank you” to a local retailer that they feel has provided an excellent service to them and their families. They will also stand a chance of winning an iPad.
After launching the website, Chloe Smith MP said, “We have some fantastic shops here in north Norwich. Our community would be very much worse off without the hardworking men and women who run them. This competition is a small way of letting our local retailers know how much we appreciate and support them. I urge everyone to log onto northnorwich.greatlocalshop.co.uk and vote for their favourite shop.”
Martin Lake, Chairman of the Mid-Norfolk FSB said “As well as a friendly, knowledgeable and personal service, local shops provide convenience, choice and distinctiveness which contribute hugely to making Norwich such a great place for a spot of retail therapy…but our local shops operate in an extremely competitive environment and are continually under threat of existence from the national high street chains and, increasingly, on-line shopping. To help preserve the unique character and flavour of Norwich City I am 100% supportive of this campaign and I encourage every retail business based in North Norwich to get involved.”
